vehicleElementBaseType

An element that is defined once in a library under <vehicles> and installed in a vehicle by reference to its @uID, e.g. a system element (systemElementsType) or a cabin element (deckElementsType). It describes the element on its own: its shape in <geometry> and its mass properties in <mass>. Where the element sits in the vehicle is given by whatever installs it, for a system element by a component (componentType).

Element coordinate system

Geometry and mass are given in the coordinate system of the element. Each installation places this coordinate system in the vehicle with its own transformation, so that one definition serves all positions at which the element is installed. Its origin is the point that an installation places; the geometric center or the mounting point of the element are convenient choices. Where a primitive has its origin elsewhere, e.g. a cuboid at a corner of its lower face, its own transformation moves it there (see cuboidType).

Geometry and mass

<geometry> is required but may be empty, for an element that is described by its mass alone. The mass is then given by <mass> together with <location> (see elementMassType).
