Body that is cut out of other components, e.g. an air intake
A duct describes the shape of a body that is removed from other components, e.g. the air intake of an engine. It is built like a fuselage (fuselageType): profiles are placed at sections along the x-axis, and the surface is lofted through the profiles of the segments into one closed body. A duct takes effect only through a duct assembly (ductAssemblyType), which places it and cuts it out.
Coordinate system
The transformation of the duct places the duct coordinate system in the coordinate system of its assembly. A duct has no <parentUID> of its own: it is attached to a component through its assembly, and without a transformation and a parent of the assembly, the duct coordinate system is placed in the global coordinate system. @symmetry mirrors the duct at the named plane of the assembly coordinate system; the mirror image belongs to the same assemblies as the duct, so that an intake on each side of a fuselage is written once.
Structure
<structure> describes the wall of the duct with skin, stringers and frames, positioned in the duct coordinate system as those of a fuselage (ductStructureType).
