Cross section of a spar

web1 is the web that carries the spar positions: the middle point of the spar, the point given by the spar position, is the intersection of the chord surface with web1. A second web (web2) makes the spar a box spar.

upperCap and lowerCap are the caps where the spar meets the upper and the lower surface of the wing. A cap is given by the area of its cross section and its material; how this area is spread over the cross section, and the length to which the position of a web between the caps (relPos) refers, are not laid down.

rotation is the angle between the chord surface and web1, in degrees, measured about the axis of the spar in the direction of increasing η. With 90 degrees web1 is perpendicular to the chord surface. The value has to be given.

The material of a cap or of a web is defined on its surface. Its x reference direction runs along the spar in the direction of increasing η, its z reference direction is the normal of the cap or of the web.

Two panels: (a) a section through a wing at eta 0.25 with the webs of the front and the rear spar standing perpendicular to the chord surface, each crossing it on the mid line of its spar; (b) the cross section of the rear spar with web1 and web2 inclined by a rotation of 70 degrees against the chord surface and the upper and lower cap on the skins between the two webs

The upper panel of the figure shows a section through a wing at η = 0.25 with the front and the rear spar, both with a rotation of 90 degrees. The lower panel shows the cross section of the rear spar with two webs, the caps on the skins between them and a rotation of 70 degrees; its values are illustrative.
